Film scored by Bombay Dub Orchestra wins best doco at Evolution International Film Festival in Hollywood

We are thrilled that a film that we scored several years ago has just won best film at the 1st Annual Evolution InternationalFilm Festival held March 17th 2012 in Hollywood, California.

The film Project Happiness focuses on four teens from Santa Cruz, California. Each faces personal obstacles to happiness: loss, alienation and the everyday challenges of being a teenager passing into adulthood. An innovative project that asks the question “How do we achieve lasting happiness?” introduces them by internet and video diaries to their peers in Nigeria and India and quickly leaves lectures and books behind. The teens also engage in conversations with cultural icons George Lucas, Richard Gere and groundbreaking neuroscientist Richard Davidson. The three international groups ultimately meet face to face in India for the first time to prepare for a rare private audience with the Dalai Lama.

The trailer features Mumtaz - (Ornament of the Palace Remix)

Project Happiness, a feature length documentary film, follows a senior high school class from Mount Madonna School near Watsonville, California, on a journey to discover the true nature of human happiness. Joining them on this quest are students from the Tibetan Children’s Village in Dharamsala, India, and students from the Dominion Heritage Academy in Jos, Nigeria.

Using email, blogs and video cameras, the participants from three continents exchanged their cultural perspectives. Over seven months, they shared personal stories, opinions and challenges, which created the foundation for life-long friendships.

Following many months of reflection and cross-cultural conversation, the American students traveled by plane, train and 4WD to India to connect for the first time face-to-face with their counterparts. As a community, they continued to test their theories, ask hard questions and prepare for the meeting of a lifetime… a private interview with the 14th Dalai Lama. Culminating on graduation day, this is an experience they will never forget. It is also a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for all of us to see through the eyes of our youth what is most important in the universal quest for lasting happiness.

Five Plus 1! Six tunes that have graced my screen this last week!

Thought I'd better get my act together and post a few more tracks. This selection are various tracks that have been viewed by yours truly many times over the last week and have been in various conversations both online and in the real world! Hope you enjoy!

1

The wonderful Bullitts featured in my last post. Here is their latest single featuring the rather talented Rosario Dawson. Mentalists video. Love it.

2

'Dromoi Agapisa Pou' by Eleni Vitali - The track that seemed to cause a little bit of dust for Lana Del Rey. Don't have too much of an opinion but I do like this and I do like Video Games. Hmmmm.

3

Top tip from Jackson. Love this track Zion-1 and 'Coastin'. What more can you want than a piano in a road and a stunning red classic American car? Comments on a postcard please.

4

Crazy video of some great balletic movements on the Great Wall of China to the music of Russian Lullaby by Butch Clancy. Love it!

5

Been teaching this piano piece to young Patrick these last few weeks. And he is playing it beautifully! Here's the original. Wonderfully poignant and haunting.

Plus 1!

Don't ask!

Something really special here. Not sure what. Sometimes music doesn't need to be explained.

Classic Roger Sanchez track from a few years back. Wonderful video.

3

Hall and Oates. Great songs. Cool production. Pretty timeless...er bad moustache.

4

What a band. Unique, intense and superbly memorable. Always great vids as well.

5

One of the best band's of the 80's. Kissing The Pink. Wonderful.

6

I've gone way past the comedic element of these guys (which is fabulous) but they completely blow me away with their innovative performances. Each an immense talent. Check out more of their complete delights here

Five Plus 1! Six Tracks to excite your ears and heart! Hopefully. Radical this week featuring just Ellie Goulding tracks and Remixes!

I really don't know what has made me post this but I want to feature a bunch of Ellie Goulding tracks. Take perfect pop songs and mess them up in a commercial beats laden extravaganza. I guess you either love this or hate it. No middle ground really.

1.

Bassnectar's storming remix of Elli Goulding's Lights Out.

2.

Wonderful!

3.

4.

Beautiful cover of Bon Iver's The Wolves. Joyful.

5.

There's something just weirdly beautiful about her voice. Like a little fairy.

Plus 1!

Now here is another really great artist. Lissie along with Ellie. More Joy.

Hope you have enjoyed this weeks offering in a strange way!

Five Plus 1! Another batch of six inspiring tracks that appeal to me.

Another six songs that are appealing to me at the moment. Some of the past and some more recent. Hope you like them. Do comment if you get a chance.

1.

A wonderful rendition of Disney Girls by Bruce Johnston from the British TV show Old Grey Whistle Test. With a slightly sleepy 'Whispering' Bob Harris in the background.

2.

Very rare clip of lead vocals my Tom Jones with the wonderful C, S, N & Y and the great song 'Long Time Gone' circa 1969

3.
Yes a girl with a lampshade on her head but a song worthy of much praise. Duran Duran came back with some serious new songs. This is one of them.

4.

Don't hate me folks but I do like this along with cricket legend Geoff Boycott. It's a good song and it's a moving video -  good message especially in this crazy world where kids half the time have no idea what is going on! And it has had 257 Million views. Oh the royalties......
5.

The legendary Nat King Cole. Had to add some Christmas cheer.

Plus 1! (6)

Royalty!!

Five Plus 1! Six tracks that have me on the edge of my seat. Or rather helping me chill out. (wk#13)

Six more tracks this week that have a certain Bohemian element about them. Hope you enjoy a blast from the past. Thanks to brother Ian for spinning some seriously brilliant music way back then and right now!

1

Totally far out. Great era in music. This typified the time.

2

Beautiful. The Byrds and the film. What an era. What songwriting. What voices. What else?

3

A wonderful album and an amazing artist. Thanks to my brother Ian for his wonderful music education. This was played on rotation during my youth!

4

Sometimes music is painfully beautiful. Music creates an emotion that gets locked in time. The musicianship of these guys was second to none.

5

How good is this? Amazing string arrangement.

Plus 1!

Probably one of the greatest voices! Effortless but with such pure emotion.
